Tighter water-pollution control laws under Senate review
April 14, 2008
The Senate conducted hearings
on April 9th on S 1870, known as the Clean Water Restoration Act. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chair Barbara Boxer says Supreme Court decisions have made tighter regulations necessary
, while the ranking Republican, James Inhofe, said the bill unconstitutionally expands Federal regulations
. The bill is probably better-known in its House version, as HR 2421
. If passed, it could be one of the most significant pieces of environmental and regulatory legislation in decades.
