UK plans to give up on defending several towns against rising seas

After a severe flood caused by a giant tidal surge, the government has admitted that several towns will be evacuated and allowed to wash into the sea over the next 30 years because it's no longer feasible to pay to protect them. Flood controls like pump systems, sluice gates and upstream level-control gates can be costly, but that cost is always to be balanced against the value of what they're protecting.
