National Research Council expresses concern over ethanol's impact on water
October 17, 2007

The National Research Council has released a report suggesting that increased production of ethanol and other biofuels could put serious pressure on water resources in many parts of the US, and may have other negative consequences like increased fertilizer pollution. They recommend that ethanol be produced with increased attention to the water environment, including more use of recycled water and a focus on reducing the amount of irrigation required to produce biofuel crops.
