Oregon contractor hit with quarter-million-dollar fine for water pollution

Runoff into streams around a big highway project will cost a contractor $240,000 in fines. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality says the contractor allowed silt and sediment to get into waterways, creating a big pollution problem. Silt and sediment can be kept from becoming environmental hazards through the use of turbidity curtains.
