Water, electric pumps, and nuclear power
April 6, 2007

The Duane Arnold nuclear power plant near Cedar Rapids had to shut down on April 2nd due to an electrical problem that cut off electricity to some of the plant's water pumps. Electrical power generation is by far the biggest user of fresh water supplies in the US. Interesting factoid: The plant is 70% owned by Florida Power and Light.
