Governor says Nebraska has enormous water problems
February 19, 2008
Several competing interests have brought water issues to a high level of stress in Nebraska: Irrigation demands, especially as the prices for crops like corn have risen dramatically; a long-term drought that has starved the area of normal moisture; and legal contention by the state of Kansas over its rights to water from shared rivers, to name just three. Those forces are making Nebraska's water issues more complex
and more important, according to Governor Dave Heineman.
